Synopsis (Goodreads):
As a forensic nurse on a search and rescue team, Brynn Nealey braves a dangerous blizzard to find the survivors of a plane crash in the Cascade Mountains. Joining her is Alex Kinton, a former US marshal with self-destructive tendencies. Alex lies his way onto Brynn’s team to find the man who killed his brother—and then return the favor. But once the team members reach the plane’s wreckage, they discover everyone aboard has perished…except for the man Alex is hunting. Alex will do whatever it takes to track his target through the vast, snowy wilderness.Thoughts on Chilled: I'm going to go on record (as I like to do) mentioning how very, VERY much I love when two people get trapped in the cold and are forced to face their attraction while battling the elements. While this book didn't quite give me the one-on-one time I love where our couple have to cuddle together to save body heat, etc, it was VERY satisfying.
As the temperatures drop, however, so do Alex’s defenses. His contact with the sharp, kindhearted Brynn makes his lust for vengeance difficult to reconcile with his growing feelings for a woman who risks her life to help others. What will happen to Alex’s savage instincts when he finally has the opportunity to confront his brother’s killer?
In Chilled, the next thrilling tale in the Bone Secrets saga, Golden Heart finalist Kendra Elliot weaves an icy tale of cold nights, cold hearts, and cold-blooded killers.
Why? Because crazy stuff happening in the snow (including, but not limited to plane crashes, escaped convicts, betrayal, and avalanches) is like catnip to me. I LOVE IT.
Anywho. Alex. He's kind of a mess. Not in a god way, either. He's obsessive (with good reason), willing to put others in danger to further his endgame, and he's not nearly as equipped to deal with the conditions of the rescue as he leads the team to believe. Any of those things alone would have been bad, but together they're almost a recipe for disaster.
That said, he does have dogged perseverance on his side. The guy doesn't give up. He's willing to learn and he's smart. As he gets to know the team, he starts seeing them less as stepping stones to getting the bad guy and more as people he regrets putting at risk.
Brynn...well, she's a caregiver by nature, so she doesn't immediately write Alex off. Which is good since he does have some pretty stellar qualities once he lets himself see what's around him. Brynn is smart and dependable and dealing with some personal things that make her question the quickness of her attraction to Alex.
The bad guys get their due. The good guys come out stronger for their trials. This pleases me. Greatly. And now I'm totally looking forward to picking up the next book.
