Synopsis (Goodreads):
In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold...Thoughts on Rookie Move: Leo and Georgia. Theirs is a complicated relationship. No, wait. It's really not that complicated. They were together back in high school when things took an unexpected turn that left both of them reeling. I didn't love Georgia's reaction back then, but shock can make people do funny things and I do understand where she was coming from.
Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.
Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast....
The older, wiser versions of Leo and Georgia have figured out that talking things through is WAY better for their (re)budding relationship than making assumptions and letting things fester. No lie, I kinda loved it. I mean, it hurt a little to watch, sure, but there was something about them that made it all worth it.
So. Leo. The rookie who's coming into a tense situation with a new team, a new coach, and the woman he loved to pieces back in his life. Considering Georgia's job with the team, it's not like they could avoid one another. She tried, but being the person who makes sure the Bruisers look good in public makes it hard to avoid one of the players.
As for Georgia, she had a lot of soul searching to do. She did what she thought was right before, but she never got over Leo and he never got over her. *heart eyes* Second chance romances, man. I didn't know I was such a sucker for them until recently.
FYI, I really want to go back and dive into the Ivy Years series again so I can relive the stories of all the guest appearances who left me grinning like a loon. I LOOOOVE seeing old faces pop up in unexpected places, so the name dropping and what have you thrilled me to pieces.
Also FYI, I broke my #1 rule when reading a series and read book 2 before I wrote the review for this one. Yep, I'm liking these Bruisers. A lot.
