Synopsis (Goodreads):
As Prime magic users, Catalina Baylor and her sisters have extraordinary powers—powers their ruthless grandmother would love to control. Catalina can earn her family some protection working as deputy to the Warden of Texas, overseeing breaches of magic law in the state, but that has risks as well. When House Baylor is under attack and monsters haunt her every step, Catalina is forced to rely on handsome, dangerous Alessandro Sagredo, the Prime who crushed her heart.

The nightmare that Alessandro has fought since childhood has come roaring back to life, but now Catalina is under threat. Not even his lifelong quest for revenge will stop him from keeping her safe, even if every battle could be his last. Because Catalina won't rest until she stops the use of the illicit, power-granting serum that's tearing their world apart.
Thoughts on Emerald Blaze: I am deeply enamored of the Baylor family and the people that gravitate toward them. Their romances are smokin' hot and the danger they collectively end up in is toe-curling. Nevada and Connor were awesomely matched (I seriously love them. Hard.) and Catalina and Alessandro are no less explosive together. (Seeing how often Connor destroys things in his path, this is saying a lot.)

So. Catalina and Alessandro. She's pushing forward after Alessandro's sudden departure six months before and she's...doing okay. At least that's what she keeps telling herself. Given the deal she made with her grandmother, Alessandro removing himself from her life is for the best, right? To be suddenly forced to work with him again is not easy, but she'll do it and she'll do it in the most professional manner possible.

Except Alessandro's changed. He's dealt with some rough stuff in the past six months and it's marked him. Trying to stay distant with this Alessandro is nearly impossible and, given the danger they're in from the case their working together on, keeping her professional distance is getting harder and harder.

Some brutal truths, a few steamy kisses (among other things), danger danger danger!, and BIG magic. No lie, that's what I come for and I am so SO happy to spend time with these characters in this world.
