Olivia LeClair's experiment with speed dating is not going well. First there was the nasty encounter with the date from hell who tried to murder her and now the mysterious Harlan Rancourt—long believed dead—sits down at her table and tells her she's the only one who can help him locate the legendary Vortex lab.

This is not what Olivia had in mind when she signed up for the Four Event Success Guaranteed package offered by the dating agency. She doesn't have much choice, though, because her psychic investigation firm works for the mysterious Foundation and Victor Arganbright, the director, is adamant that she assist Harlan. Thoughts on Lightning in a Mirror: Hoo-boy. We're back at Fogg Lake and things are heating up. Not literally. I mean, the area's already chock-full of hot psi and it doesn't get any hotter. BUT...Olivia and Harlan do generate some heat while there. So there is that.

But before the heat generating, we have the two of them entering into a wary alliance. Olivia's not sure what to think of the formerly presumed dead man and his steely-eyed quest to find the lost Vortex lab. Or just find Vortex. Either way, she's adamant that she's not what he claims she is, but she does come to realize that he (and the Foundation) need her to stop Vortex.

Meanwhile, Harlan is kind of a mess. His abilities make him see himself as monstrous (although Olivia assures him repeatedly he's not) and he's REALLY bad at reading social cues. Which leads to a little awkwardness at the worst moments. He's also been on the run for the past five years and he's not used to having anyone have his back. So that's an adjustment.

A little danger (okay, more than a little), a lot of steam, a prophecy or two, answers to a whole lot of questions, and two people figuring out they fit. I do enjoy a solid ending to a big story and this fit the bill. *thumbs up*
