Synopsis (Goodreads):
Jane Ladling presents the perfect fail-proof recipe to spice up the holidays. Or ruin them. Baker’s choice!Thoughts on Twelve Graves of Christmas: Oh man, Jane is just a wildly unpredictable, lady, isn't she? She might jump to conclusions and follow a very convoluted path to reach an answer, but she does get there. Eventually. And she's mostly right (at least when it comes to figuring out who the bad guys are) even if she takes so really BIG leaps to figure things out.
Mix a murderous cat with a goofy corgi. (Ignore any hissing. That definitely probably means the two ingredients are blending amazingly well.) Then add a landlocked cemetery allegedly peppered with gold-stuffed coffins. Whisk in a gravekeeper convinced a family curse forever dooms her to lose any man she loves. Marinate with a ridiculously charming ex-special agent whose muscles and lopsided smile make her forget said curse. Toss in a pinch of mystery courtesy of an old, coded treasure map and crank up the heat. Broil, baby!
If no one dies, serve with a smile. If they do, smile wider.
And maybe, just maybe, Jane can solve a series of bewildering clues, end the curse for good, and finally find her own happily ever after. Or not.
Well, she's right except when it comes to trusting her heart to someone. It's not even that she trusts her heart to the wrong person, she just 100% believes in the Ladling curse and refuses to put someone she has feelings for (possibly) in harm's way. Which means she's been fighting this thing between her and Conrad since the beginning.
Fortunately for her, the hunky special agent isn't one to give up easily and he just keeps gently insinuating himself into Jane's life in the best way. Which means Jane fights even harder and Conrad digs himself in even deeper. You know, until Jane can't deny that she has feelings for the big guy.
A little puzzle-solving, a hunky roommate, a plotting cat, a glorious holiday meal, and a whole lot of Jane-isms. *thumbs up*
