Synopsis (Goodreads):
BASH:
I dislike people.
I despise humans.
A cruel mandate from one of my region's rulers has saddled me with a slew of little alien humans: I'm to put them to work.
One problem?
I run a rock quarry, where humans' thin skin is a detriment to productivity.
Overseeing these humans is like trying to herd yanaks. If I don't burn, beat, or strangle them to death by the day's end, it will be a miracle.

ISLA:
I can tell the boss likes me, because I'm not dead. Bash is abrasive and acerbic, like an alien love child of Michael Caine and Miss Hannigan. And maybe Ebenezer Scrooge. Bash is a little... anti-human race.
But he's not all bad. Sure, he's a little growly and he sets things on fire when he gets mad, but even villains need a friend. And here? Bash is everybody's villain.
Everyone's but mine.

Warning: This book is the slowest of slow burns. It's a 127K story with the personal puzzle parts not snapping together until the last stretch of the book. If you want to sink your teeth into a romance that hits the fireworks level fast, skip on this one. But if you want a sweet slow burn, then this one might be the book for you. (Especially if you love super grouchy heroes with big horns and bigger attitudes.)
Thoughts on The Quarry Master: I have to admit Bash's general state of grumpiness around anyone who didn't live up to his (very high) standards of work ethics (bathroom breaks are ridiculous! a body should be working instead of taking time to attend to bodily functions!) was HILARIOUS. The guy simply didn't know how to relate to anyone or anything that wasn't 100% focused on completing the job they were given.

That his baseline standard for a good day (for him) was not strangling, roasting, or otherwise maiming any of the humans (or hobs, although the hobs have a MUCH higher tolerance for physical damage than the humans, so he gives himself a little leeway there) pretty much says everything you need to know about poor Bash in the beginning. He's grumpy, focused, and NOT HAPPY WHEN HIS PRODUCTIVITY IS IS NOT AT PEAK.

Isla totally throws for a loop. For all Bash is determined to not give his heart to anyone (and isn't that a kicker of a story?), Isla worms her way under his skin and soon he's doing all the obsessive things Rakhii do when they find their special someone. AND BOY DOES THAT CHAFE HIM.

For all his grumbling and groaning (and occasional bouts of fire-breathing), Bash is a big softie underneath. The more Isla uncovers about him, the more she falls for him. Even when he's doing all the things that terrify the other humans working for him.

Geez, these two are so freaking cute together.

I've been hooked on this series since the beginning and YESSSSSS! to this installment.
