Synopsis (Goodreads):
Life is tough these days for Lydia Smith, licensed para-archaeologist. Seriously stressed-out from a nasty incident in an alien tomb, she is obliged to work part-time in Shrimpton’s House of Ancient Horrors, a very low-budget museum. She has a plan to get her career back on track, but it isn’t going well. Stuff keeps happening.

Take the dead body that she discovered in one of the sarcophagus exhibits. Who needed that? Finding out that her new client, Emmett London, is one of the most dangerous men in the city isn’t helping matters either. And that’s just today’s list of setbacks. Here in the shadows of the Dead City of Old Cadence, things don’t really heat up until After Dark.
Thoughts on After Dark: This was a re-read and it was fun! Lydia and Emmett...well, let's just say they didn't necessarily hit things off on the right foot and things kept getting more complicated between them until they, you know, didn't. That mostly happened once Emmett finally came clean on who he was and what he could do and his part in the Guild.

But before we get to that point, we have a para-archaeologist who is treated like she's about to break (or like she's already completely cracked) by friends and former colleagues alike. Which kinnnnnnda makes things worse for her because she's starting to question if she really CAN do the thing she was so good at even though she really feels like she can of she's just given the chance again.

And then there's Emmett. He's a little dangerous and a lot intrigued by Lydia. And he doesn't want her involved once he realizes she might be in danger helping him. Which is kind of a bummer for him because she very much is involved and she's not about to walk away just because he tells her to.

More than a few unsavory characters, a dangerous situation or two, a para-archaeologist finding her footing again after a bad experience, and some steamy moments between two strong-willed people. Good stuff and a FUN re-read.
