Synopsis (Goodreads):
It’s Christmastime in Beacon and there’s only one gift Holly wants this year. More than anything she longs for the sexy older alien, Gorrard, to be her mate. From the second his eyes locked on to hers, she knew they were meant to be. The only problem now… is getting him to realize it.Thoughts on Alien Gift: After the, erm, heavier themes in V's book, Holly and Gorrard's sweet romance was much needed. The biggest stumbling block for these two is Gorrard's steadfast refusal to understand that he's NOT too old for Holly and she wouldn't be "throwing her youth away" if they ended up together.
Gorrard rescued Holly from what could have been a life of slavery and ever since they returned to Beacon the human almost seems drawn to him. Not that Gorrard minds. Each moment they spend together becomes the sweetest torture, as the bond between the pair intensifies. When Holly confesses her feelings, Gorrard worries that the only thing he’ll need to protect his human from… is himself.
Admittedly, it took Gorrard a while to see Holly as more than a friend (that's not exactly right...it's more like it took time for him to understand that there was more to their friendship than he was willing to admit to for fear of having it all yanked away from him). There was also the weirdness around his former honey-bunny being 30 years younger than him due to the cryo-sleep stuff and...I was actually kinda weirded out by how chill he was about what went down there. I mean, he was a little grumpy when all was said and done, but he was pretty darn accepting of the fact she didn't tell him a pretty big thing.
On Holly's end, she knew what she wanted and she wanted Gorrard. But she's so low-key that very few people picked up on her interest. Which is one of the reasons Gorrard kept pushing aside his want for her because he thought she was only hanging around because they were friends.
By the by, I have a kind of big soft spot for aliens trying to do human holiday stuff. There's just something so darn charming about their slightly off kilter interpretation of things. Secret Santa! YES!
