Synopsis (Goodreads):
Possessed by the demon of Misery, Cameo isn’t allowed to experience joy. If she dares, her memory is wiped clean. With no other recourse, she sneaks into a land more fantastical than any fairy tale, determined to find the one man with the key to her redemption.

Lazarus the Cruel and Unusual rules his kingdom with a single unwavering focus: to build his army and annihilate his enemies. Nothing distracts him—until Cameo. He is relentless in his quest to make her smile…and seduce her into his bed.

As dark forces conspire against them, threatening to destroy the fragile bond they've forged, the once-calm Lazarus grows crazed. Every heart-stopping kiss and wicked touch causes Cameo to teeter on the brink of happiness. But if she falls, she risks forgetting him forever…
Thoughts on The Darkest Promise: It's Cameo's turn to find her special someone and THINGS AREN'T EASY. Honestly, they're never easy for the lords, but Cameo gets the extra special bonus of forgetting the moments that bring her happiness (and when we find out the hows and whys of that...YIKES!), so she's a little desperate at first to figure out what she and Lazarus meant to one another AND hang onto whatever happiness she can eke out of their time together.

As for Lazarus, he's not called the Cruel and Unusual for kicks. He has a bit of a cruel streak and he's very good at devising unusual punishments for those who go against him. He knows exactly what Cameo is to him (his hunny-bunny!) and he's not willing to fall into the trap that imprisoned his father. That's his plan, at least. As it turns out, he has a hard time walking away from her and keeps finding himself in her orbit.

Meanwhile, there's war on the horizon, Lazarus is itching to get his revenge for his previous imprisonment, Cameo's very voice brings misery to those around her, and the twins are sowing a little chaos in their wake. *thumbs up*
