Synopsis (Goodreads):
Deputy Tessa Black gave up her career as a detective with the Seattle PD and returned to the Pacific Northwest island she calls home to care for her ailing mother. Tessa thinks her mother’s illness is the worst thing she’ll face—until she responds to a routine call in the state park and discovers a local man harpooned to a sign.

As the murder investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that the victim harbored secrets. Together with her FBI agent best friend, Cate, and park ranger Logan Wilde, Tessa must connect the pieces before the murderer strikes again. But the closer she gets to the truth, the more she finds herself—and the ones she loves—in harm’s way.

Pressure mounts as Tessa attempts to juggle the current case with her search for the truth behind her childhood friend Samantha’s disappearance twenty years ago. Can Tessa find the murderer and uncover answers about Samantha without jeopardizing everything she holds dear?
Thoughts on A Bone to Pick: The second Widow's Island book plunges us into the life of Tessa Black as she deals with the heartache of her mother's illness on top of a gruesome murder. Plus, there's the whole thing with her and Cate's missing childhood friend. And potential romance with Cate's brother Logan.

You know, all little things.

Anywho. Tessa's stretched thin and she's struggling a bit. That doesn't mean she's willing to skimp on investigating. Fortunately for her, she has Logan to lean on when things get really rough. Not that she actually leans on him, but knowing someone she trusts has her back helps her through the rough patches.

Logan's a little harder to read than Tessa. His time in the military has left a few scars and he's working on finding himself again. Tessa is unexpected. In a good way, I think. She helps get him out his head when things get bad. Plus, I like them together.

Not going to lie, I'm ready for book 3 now. Waiting isn't my strong suit.
