Synopsis (Goodreads):
In the early nineteenth century, hungry gold prospectors descended on Miracle Mountain in north Georgia, ripping open the ancient wilderness, driven by dreams of glittering fortunes. Local legends tell of mysterious events, like a young girl who defied death after toppling from the mountain's treacherous waterfall.Thoughts on Miracle Mountain: Hoo-boy. Ellie and Stacey have their work cut out for them this time around. Not because of the ghosties, necessarily, but because some of the people staying at the inn (owner included) are WAY into contacting the other side. Which makes Ellie's job a little more difficult since she has to make sure said individuals aren't doing anything boneheaded in addition to trying to figure out what the spirits want.
Today, tourists visit to see the legendary falls along with the blazing colors of the Appalachian forests in autumn. The rustic, antiquated Highwater Inn welcomes them, but specters from the past haunt the halls and terrify the guests and staff. Paranormal investigator Ellie Jordan arrives to help the owners, who are desperate to clear away the evil influences before they're forced to close down and abandon the struggling hotel.
On the up side, Ellie and Stacey don't have to convince the owners the inn is haunted. Which is, you know, something different. That said (and is often the case with the ghosts Ellie is called in to take care of), the entities hanging around can be a little devious. Let's just say you don't know who to trust until THINGS HAPPEN and then you're stuck with the consequences.
As always, Ellie and Stacey (and Jacob, once he joins them) do their thing (which involves research along with the fun tracking of possible supernatural events around the property and , as in Jacob's case, reliving some not-so-fun events thanks to some helpful ghosts) while trying to keep the people who hired them safe. Since there are also other folks staying at the inn, they also have to keep THEM safe, as well. In other words, they have their work cut out for them and BOY did I like watching the ladies do what they do to unravel the events on the mountain. GOOD STUFF ALL AROUND!
