Synopsis (Goodreads):
Don't Close Your Eyes.My Thoughts: *blinks* Well, Rachel Vincent has once again taken a character I never thought I'd empathize with and made her somewhat likeable. Sophie, much like Sabine, is the girl I love to hate. I've also always thought it was a little unfair to her that everyone in her family knows what's going on and yet they willfully keep her in the dark as to her heritage on her father's side. It reminds me of how her parents didn't tell Kaylee that her "panic attacks" were more than just uncontrollable bouts of screaming. You'd think that with all the Netherworld baddies that stalk that family, they'd let Sophie in on the big family secret just so she could take pains to protect herself. I mean, even if she never inherited any bean sidhe abilities she should know what dark forces are after her family and how to keep herself safe.
Sophie Cavanaugh is not going to let her freak of a cousin's strange psychiatric condition ruin high school for them both. Not after all the work she's put into cultivating the right look, and friends, and reputation. But then, Sophie sees something so frightening she lets out a blood-curdling scream—and finds herself stuck in a bizarre parallel world where nothing is safe and deadly creatures lurk just out of sight, waiting for her to close her eyes and sleep...forever.
Could this world be real? Or does insanity run in the family...?
Anyway. I really liked the introduction of Luca and how strong Sophie was when she was suddenly thrust into this deadly and supernatural world. For being kept in the dark about all this Netherworld stuff, she's quick to work to her strengths and she uses her brain when it calls for it.
This story has me all jazzed up for book 6 now. I want to see how Luca fits into Kaylee's storyline and whether Sophie eventually learns that her cousin isn't as crazy-cakes as she likes to pretend she is.

At first I was all, "I thought I commented on this review!" Then I realized this was your second review today (and not even a double take review). Duh. Maybe I need a nap....
ReplyDeleteLol! You need to read this series so we can *discuss* it. There's so much that I want to talk about with you!
DeleteI was just looking at my copy (I have a "volume 1" that has the first couple books) the other day. I almost picked it up, but I was disappointed that GR will probably only count it as one book when it's really more than that. Boo GR.
DeleteSo... break it down by book on GR. I've done that before with omnibus editions. Those are full length novels. It's not like you're reading 30 page short stories. Which I have also done, btw.
DeleteOh. Good call. I will do that! Soon. Ish.
