Synopsis (Goodreads):
Rex Fortescue, king of a financial empire, was sipping tea in his “counting house” when he suffered an agonizing and sudden death. On later inspection, the pockets of the deceased were found to contain traces of cereals.Thoughts on A Pocket Full of Rye: A suspicious death happens and Miss Marple isn't on the scene. In fact, it takes another two deaths before the inimitable (and unflappable) Miss Marple puts in an appearance. Her personal connection to one of the deceased gives her a reason to look into things and it isn't long before she connects the manner of the deaths to an old nursery rhyme.
Yet, it was the incident in the parlor which confirmed Miss Marple’s suspicion that here she was looking at a case of crime by rhyme. . . .
Which isn't to say she solves it quickly. As with any mystery, Miss Marple has to sort through the clues and learn about those involved. This includes both the victims and the deceased. The more she learns about all of them, the clearer things become. Until, as you might have guessed, Miss Marple solves the crime and uncovers the motive. *thumbs up*
