Part of that is simply because Suki doesn't realize Tegan is king. She thinks he's just a super hot, super powerful demon visiting earth for the first time. And while she might start out looking to bag and tag him as a means to an end, it doesn't take long before she's starting to like the sexy demon. But having a relationship when a lady is a succubus comes with its own set of issues and Suki has to figure out if the things she used to want outweigh how Tegan makes her feel.
As for Tegan, he's a warrior ruling a kingdom during a time of peace. For all his strength and willingness to learn, he doubts himself and his ability to be a good king. His council doesn't help, seeing how they keep trying to hold onto their power by chipping away at his ideas to better the lives of his people. Suki is...well, she captures his attention from the start and soon he's finding reasons to spend more and more time in her company.
A little danger, a succubus who tries to drive a wedge between the two lovebirds, a lot of steam, and a couple who (eventually) figure things out. You know, after a few roadblocks and a stumble or two. *thumbs up*
