Synopsis (Goodreads):
Gwen’s never wanted to be a leader, but when no one else stepped up, she took on the role. As the mayor of post-apocalyptic Shreveport, she’s made decisions to protect her people… and most of them have backfired disastrously. When she discovers that the dangerous gold dragon lurking outside of the fort has decided she’s his mate, heartsick Gwen thinks that the best thing she can do is confront him and take him far away from the city.

She does this to save her people - her sister, her friends, her fort.

She doesn’t expect to understand the dragon.

She certainly doesn’t expect to fall in love.
Thoughts on Fire in His Spirit: The dragons are BACK and THINGS are being revealed. THINGS! Dangerous things! Things that could have a HUGE impact on the world and what's coming.

*slightly crazed eyes*

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. This is Gwen and Vaan's story and it's a doozy. Vaan's madness makes him forgetful and quick to anger. Actually, all the drakoni seem quick to anger, so maybe that's just the drakoni in general. With Vaan, however, he loses track of the thread of his thoughts and teeters on the edge of wanting to flame everything within reach.

Which wouldn't work out well for Gwen and the people in the fort. Nobody wants to be burned alive on a regular basis. Gwen, being the de facto leader, takes matters into her own hands once she realizes she's Vaan's special lady friend. Off they go into the wild blue yonder so he won't be able to fame down the fort if things get dicey.

In theory, this is a solid plan, but Gwen has a wee bit of guilt over abandoning her friends and sister. In truth, her guilt covers a lot of different things, but the abandonment part is front and center. Especially once she starts having feelings for her slightly crazed mate and realizes how much he needs her to keep him centered.

THOSE DRAGONS, MAN. They have it rough.

We get answers, though. We also get to revisit previously mated couples and see how they're getting along. Drakoni babies! EEEE! I imagine the drakoni males will be even more protective once they have little ones underfoot. That doesn't bode well for the big bad sitting on the horizon.

I CAN'T WAIT!
