Synopsis (Goodreads):
Lacey Pinkerton is excited to attend the annual Mayfield Marathon. Her best friend, Elsie, is running in the race. Elsie’s been training for months and she’s ready to push through that finish line ribbon. The day promises to bring lots of cheering and excitement but when one of the top runners goes missing, an emergency search uncovers the tragic truth. Was it a terrible accident or foul play? Lacey plans to get to the bottom of it…with the help of her handsome detective boyfriend, of course.
Thoughts on Violets and Vengeance: It wouldn't be a Port Danby event if Lacey didn't stumble over and/or get involved with a dead body. Which is to say, Lacey's found herself in the middle of another investigation.

This time around, it's an EXTREMELY unlikeable woman who's been found dead. The biggest question is whether is was accidental or very not accidental. As casually cruel as the victim was, she had a lot of people who aren't heartbroken over her death. Which means there are a lot of reasons someone could have a motive and a whole lot of suspects.

Besides the investigation (which is satisfying in its own way), Lacey and Briggs are also dealing with some domestic issues. Namely, one smitten crow who's trying to be more crow-like. By that, I mean, there might be romance in the air for the big guy.

A little death, a couple of misfired date nights, the super-snoot, and forward movement in Lacey and Briggs's relationship. Good stuff.
