Synopsis (Goodreads):
The holiday season in Port Danby is never complete without a little peril!Thoughts on Poinsettias and Peril: Lacey and James are settling into married life, the holidays are coming, and a dead body just turned up in a local Christmas tree farm. The downside? James has been injured in a tragic skateboarding accident and Lacey is on her own when it comes to figuring out who the killer is.
Lacey is excited to spend her first Christmas with James as a married couple, but she’s missing her best friends Lola and Ryder. They’re across the globe on a scientific excursion, and this will be Lacey's first Christmas in Port Danby without them. She’s determined to make the best of it.
In the meantime, there’s a Christmas tree feud brewing between two local farmers, and Lacey finds herself caught up in the middle of it. When one of the farmers ends up dead, there is no shortage of suspects. An accident with a skateboard and a surprise video chat add to the excitement, and Lacey soon finds herself on a holiday rollercoaster ride.
Even more of a downer? The officer covering while James is out is NOT AT ALL EQUIPPED to deal with a little case of murder. The poor guy is a messsssss. Which means Lacey is pretty much on her own in every way during this investigation.
Beyond the dead body and the sifting of clues and suspects, Lacey's also busy trying to get into the holiday spirit. Which includes a tree that needs to be pet-proofed (because animals, amirite?!?!), an upcoming holiday party with her friends in town, and fretting about why Lola hasn't contacted either Lacey or her mother recently. Okay, that last part wasn't actually part of the holiday spirit, but Lacey is missing her BFF and is getting a little antsy about the lack of contact.
More than a few suspects, a bit of a shocking decision by Lola's mom, a detective who doesn't do well with injury induced downtime, and a lady who does her sleuthing thing even when its tough. GOOD STUFF!
