Synopsis (Goodreads):
A terrible heat wave has fallen over Firefly Junction and tempers are flaring. With triple digit temperatures and humidity thick enough you can cut it with a knife, a chili cook-off is the last place journalist Sunni Taylor wants to be but Prudence Mortimer, the owner of the Junction Times wants her to cover the event. When one of the competitors is stabbed to death in the parking lot the cook-off really heats up. Sunni is no longer covering recipes and pepper eating contests. She has a murder to solve, and the triple digit temperatures aren’t going to stop her.
Thoughts on Heat Wave Homicide: Things are a little steamy in Firefly Junction and I don't mean in a sexy way. A nasty heat wave is causing people to do things they wouldn't normally do, which (naturally) means Jax is up to his eyebrows in cases. Throw in a chili cook-off that Sunni's covering for the paper and you can imagine how hot things are getting.

Plus, there's the whole dead body thing. Since Sunni has the unenviable gift of stumbling over said dead bodies (IT'S A GIFT!), she's also eyebrow-deep in a case. (Which, honestly, helps Jax out since he's dealing with all the other heat-related cases.)

Anywho. Some sisterly bonding, a whole lot of chili, a new face at the paper, Sunni's resident ghost doing what he does, and a tiny case of murder. What can I say except it's always a fun time in Firefly Junction!
